For many years, Division IV of Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences has followed a tradition to recognize the outstanding achievements of young scientist with several Awards related to various fields of technology. This year, one of the six Awards has been given to prof. Marta Szachniuk for computational methods to recognize and model RNA 3D structures.

Melania Nowicka won the Polish Bioinformatics Society Award for the best master thesis in bioinformatics defended in 2016. Title of his thesis is "Optymalizacja użycia par kodonów w projektowaniu syntetycznych otwartych ramek odczytu". Her supervisor was dr. Marcin Radom. Moreover, another student, Piotr Żurkowski received a distinction for his thesis "DNA de novo assembly algorithm with repetition sensitive graph traversal". His supervisor was dr. Aleksandra Świercz.
